Real-time Network Status Monitoring

Situation

Most European distribution system operators (DSOs) have limited or no information regarding the real-time status of their low voltage network (at the 400V level). As more Smart Meters enter the grid they can be used, not only to measure energy, but also to monitor power voltage, power factor, average values, technical losses and power flow.

Solution

Utilihive processes the flow of information so that utilities can apply grid analytics on their data. Data from Smart Meters can determine which customers are contributing to high load allowing the DSO to better manage the utilization of their assets. Meter data can provide real-time operations and maintenance management in a low voltage network diagram allowing utilities to detect or even mitigate local outages and other infrastructure issues.

Benefits

Through the application of Smart Meter data, DSOs are able to better utilize existing grid capacity and avoid or delay expensive grid investments while maintaining service reliability. As a result savings can be realized from lower investment and maintenance expense, demand response, reduction in customer interruption/ compensation costs as well as the reduction of call center calls and complaints.
